A charming and atmospheric harbour scene by British marine painter Don Micklethwaite, depicting fishing boats resting at low tide beside a stone quay. The composition captures the quiet character of a working coastal harbour, likely inspired by Scarborough or the North Yorkshire coastline — subjects for which the artist is particularly well known.
Soft evening light filters through expansive clouds, casting a gentle glow across the water and wet sand. Carefully observed boats, quay posts, and shoreline buildings create a sense of authenticity and calm, hallmarks of Micklethwaite’s traditional marine style. His confident brushwork and sensitive handling of light give the scene warmth and depth, evoking the timeless atmosphere of Britain’s coastal towns.
The painting is signed to the lower left and is presented in an ornate gilt decorative frame that complements the warm coastal tones beautifully. Framed size: 53 x 47 cm.
A fine example of late 20th-century British marine painting, ideal for collectors of harbour and maritime art or for traditional interior display.
