V&A Marie Antoinette “Flowers of Versailles” Porcelain & Ormolu Mantel Clock
A Victoria & Albert Museum licensed “Marie Antoinette, Flowers of Versailles” mantel clock, produced by Franklin Mint, inspired by the opulent decorative arts of the Louis XVI period.
The finely modelled porcelain case is of elegant urn form, richly adorned with delicate polychrome floral sprays and ribbon motifs, echoing the refinement of 18th-century Sèvres style. The body is surmounted by an elaborate gilt metal flower spray finial, with finely cast caryatid handles to either side, enhancing its sculptural presence and symmetry.
The circular dial is set within a brass bezel mounted with crystal jewels, featuring both Roman and Arabic chapter numerals and pierced hands, combining decorative appeal with clear legibility. The clock is fitted with an eight-day movement striking on a bell, reflecting traditional horological design.
Raised on a shaped base with further porcelain panels and gilt detailing, the piece exemplifies the high-quality decorative reproductions issued under licence by the Victoria and Albert Museum, drawing on original designs associated with the courtly elegance of Marie Antoinette and Versailles.
A highly decorative and collectable clock, ideal as a statement interior piece or for collectors of fine decorative arts and V&A licensed works.
