The work is by Thomas Charles Barfield, a respected British painter and sculptor who trained at the Leicester School of Art and in Antwerp. Barfield served as Chief Art Lecturer to the Leicester County Council and exhibited at the Royal Academy and other leading institutions. His works are noted for their disciplined draughtsmanship and engaging genre subjects.
