Description

Barometer, Georgian, England, circa 1850, with Walnut case

This elegant Georgian mercury stick barometer dates to the mid-19th century and represents the refined craftsmanship and scientific precision characteristic of the period. Housed in a beautifully figured walnut case with a rich, naturally developed patina, the barometer features a classical architectural pediment, slender tapering column supports, and a shaped bracket base that lend the instrument a stately architectural presence.

The original paper scale remains legible, displaying traditional weather indications, while the intact mercury tube reflects the engineering standards of early atmospheric measurement. Stick barometers of this quality were traditionally found in refined Georgian interiors, serving both as functional instruments and symbols of educated domestic taste.

Combining scientific heritage with decorative elegance, this piece stands as a fine example of early English instrument making and remains highly desirable among collectors of antique scientific instruments, period interiors, and Georgian decorative arts.

Clocks, Mantle clocks, music boxes, and other similar items may require service after transportation and are sold as decorative pieces. Please note that while the clock is in working order at the time of listing, antique mechanical clocks are sensitive to movement during transport. On arrival, the clock may require resetting, adjustment, or professional servicing if the mechanism becomes unsettled or temporarily stops. This is normal for vintage timepieces and should be expected when purchasing. There is no guarantee that the clock will work smoothly after it has been transported. Leans Gallery does not guarantee any barometers, clocks, or music boxes to be in working order.
