Description
Antique 19th Century Chelsea-Style Pottery Figures – Pair of Musician and Companion
A delightful pair of 19th-century Chelsea-style pottery figures depicting a gentleman and lady in romantic pastoral attire, richly adorned with applied floral decoration. These decorative figures beautifully echo the elegance and charm associated with 18th-century Chelsea porcelain, revived in the Victorian period.
The gentleman is modelled standing beside a tree festooned with colourful blossoms, dressed in a vibrant jacket and breeches with floral detailing. A small dog sits attentively at his side, adding narrative charm. His companion, seated gracefully opposite, plays a stringed instrument, her dress brightly enamelled with bold floral motifs and complemented by a bonnet and fitted bodice. A lamb rests at her feet, enhancing the pastoral theme.
Both figures stand upon ornate Rococo-style scroll bases highlighted with gilt accents and soft blush tones. The hand-applied flowers and foliage display careful modelling and lively polychrome decoration, characteristic of Chelsea-inspired ceramics.
Each figure measures approximately 18 cm in height and 12 cm in width. Condition is very good overall, with only minor, insignificant damage noted to the gentleman’s right-hand finger, commensurate with age.
An attractive and decorative pair, ideal for collectors of antique ceramics, Chelsea-style pottery, or 19th-century revival porcelain.
