Description
Antique Pair of Royal Worcester Water Carrier Figures – Attributed to James Hadley, Late 19th to Early 20th Century
A refined and finely modelled pair of Royal Worcester porcelain figures, attributed to the distinguished modeller James Hadley and dating to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period. These kneeling water carriers exemplify the Orientalist and Neoclassical influences that were highly fashionable in British decorative arts during the late 19th century.
The male figure is depicted kneeling while holding a large vessel across his lap, his muscular form and contemplative expression rendered with notable sensitivity and anatomical accuracy. The female companion figure mirrors the composition in graceful symmetry, also kneeling and holding a water jar, her draped garments adorned with delicate hand-painted floral decoration. Both figures are finished in a warm ivory-toned glaze, enriched with subtle gilded accents to the robes and vessels, enhancing their sculptural elegance.
The careful modelling of drapery, expressive facial features, and harmonious balance between the two figures reflect the high technical standards and artistic refinement for which Royal Worcester was renowned during its golden period. A distinguished and decorative pair, ideal for collectors of fine English porcelain and late 19th-century decorative arts.
