An exceptional 19th-century French gilt bronze ormolu mantel clock of refined Rococo inspiration, beautifully modelled and richly fire-gilded. The case is surmounted by an elegant female figure in flowing classical dress, holding a book and standing beside a draped pedestal supported by a cherub. The sculptural group is finely cast and crisply chased, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship associated with quality French bronze work of the period.

Rare 19th Century French Gilt Bronze Ormolu Mantel Clock
An exceptional 19th-century French gilt bronze ormolu mantel clock of refined Rococo inspiration, beautifully modelled and richly fire-gilded. The case is surmounted by an elegant female figure in flowing classical dress, holding a book and standing beside a draped pedestal supported by a cherub. The sculptural group is finely cast and crisply chased, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship associated with quality French bronze work of the period.
The circular enamel dial, with Roman numerals and finely pierced hands, is framed by a beaded gilt bezel and set within an elaborately scrolled case adorned with floral swags, foliage, and decorative cartouche motifs. The lower section features pierced and scrolling ornament with a central floral basket, creating a balanced and highly decorative silhouette.
The fire-gilt ormolu retains a bright, warm tone with sharp definition to the chasing. The original enamel dial is in excellent condition, free from visible chips, cracks, or crazing. The clock is complete with its key and pendulum. Having been in storage for several years, it may benefit from servicing to ensure optimal performance.
