Regency Rosewood Sarcophagus Tea Caddy with Original Etched Glass Mixing Bowl

A refined and highly attractive Regency-period rosewood tea caddy, crafted in the elegant sarcophagus form and raised on original turned bun feet. The exterior displays a rich, warm patina with beautifully figured grain, characteristic of early 19th-century English workmanship, further enhanced by delicate brass stringing and escutcheon.

The hinged lid opens to reveal a well-preserved interior fitted with twin lidded compartments, traditionally intended for storing black and green tea. Centrally positioned is the original etched glass mixing bowl, a desirable and often missing feature, used for blending teas. The bowl sits securely within its fitted recess and retains a pleasing decorative quality with its subtle etched detail.

The caddy embodies both function and refinement, reflecting the importance of tea culture during the Regency period when such boxes were prized household items and often kept under lock and key. Its balanced proportions and understated elegance make it equally suited for display or practical use today.

Condition is very good, with light age-related wear including surface marks and minor scratching to the exterior, consistent with careful use. The interior remains clean and well-presented, and the original glass bowl is intact. Overall, a well-preserved and appealing example.

A charming and collectable Regency tea caddy, ideal for collectors of antique woodenware, tea antiques, or period decorative objects.
