Still Life with Fruits and Flowers, British School, Late 19th Century

Watercolour, Gilt-Framed and Glazed. This charming late 19th-century still life watercolour depicts a carefully arranged composition of fruit and flowers, painted with sensitivity and a pleasing sense of balance. Clusters of grapes, apples, and plums are arranged alongside pale blossoms and foliage, set against a dark ground that enhances depth and contrast.

The artist demonstrates a confident handling of colour and texture, with softly modelled fruit surfaces and delicately observed floral forms. The restrained palette and traditional arrangement are characteristic of Victorian still-life painting, where such works were prized for their decorative appeal and quiet domestic refinement.

Although unsigned, the painting displays the competent technique and compositional harmony associated with the British School of the late 19th century. Colours remain well balanced, with gentle tonal depth. Some dust is visible beneath the glass; cleaning the interior and exterior of the glazing would enhance clarity and vibrancy

No obvious tears or losses observed. Gilt frame shows light wear and patina, consistent with age, but displays well. Structurally sound and ready to hang

Overall, the work is presented attractively and would benefit from light cleaning only.
