Christ Pantocrator Enthroned, Russian Orthodox Icon on Wood Panel, 19th Century

A traditional Russian Orthodox icon depicting Christ Pantocrator enthroned, surrounded by named saints and holy figures rendered in the canonical style of the Russian School. Christ is shown seated upon a throne, blessing with one hand while holding an open Gospel in the other, the figures arranged reverentially around Him with two prostrate worshippers at His feet.

Executed in oil on a wooden panel with gilded ground, the icon displays characteristic features of 19th-century devotional painting, including stylised faces, elongated proportions, and a solemn spiritual presence. The reverse retains carved Cyrillic inscriptions and original structural slats, indicating traditional panel construction. Presented in a later decorative frame. Condition shows age-related wear, including panel curvature, craquelure, minor paint losses, evidence of historic repair, and traces of old woodworm, consistent with its age and devotional use.
