Chinese Gentleman, Oil on Canvas, Mid-20th Century

A striking and characterful oil painting depicting an elderly Chinese gentleman, shown in three-quarter profile and wearing a woven straw hat. The portrait is rendered with sensitivity and atmosphere, capturing both dignity and quiet contemplation through expressive brushwork and a restrained, harmonious palette.

The handling of light, facial structure and painterly surface suggests influence from modern Chinese portrait traditions of the mid-20th century and is in the manner of Wahso Chan (1911–1987), though no definitive attribution is made.
