Bronze Figure, Khmer Warrior, Cambodia, 19th Century

This finely cast bronze sculpture depicts a standing Khmer warrior figure, modelled with expressive facial features, elaborate headdress, and richly ornamented costume. The figure holds a ceremonial club or staff and displays the stylised posture and decorative detailing characteristic of traditional Cambodian bronze work inspired by classical Angkor-period forms.

The surface exhibits a deep, naturally developed patina with subtle tonal variation, enhancing the sculptural depth and highlighting the intricate incised motifs across the garments, jewellery, and weapon. The compact scale and strong modelling suggest this piece was intended as a devotional or decorative object, reflecting Southeast Asia’s long tradition of bronze casting.

Although created in the 19th century, the sculpture faithfully echoes earlier Khmer artistic conventions, making it an attractive acquisition for collectors of Asian art, tribal and ethnographic objects, or historic bronze sculpture.
