The Affectionate Wife — Regency Farewell Scene, Reverse Glass Painting after J. Hinton, Published 1808

A charming 19th-century British School reverse glass painting titled The Affectionate Wife, depicting a tender Regency-era farewell between a lady and her departing husband. The gentleman, dressed for travel or the hunt and accompanied by two hounds, clasps his wife’s hand as she stands beside a bed in a well-appointed interior, with a river landscape visible beyond. This work is a hand-tinted reverse glass rendering of an engraving originally published December 1st, 1808 by J. Hinton of Oxford Street, London (No. 44 Wells Street). Rich colours, crisp outlines, and decorative interior details exemplify the popular early-19th-century fashion for reverse glass pictures. Presented in a period-style frame.
