Classical Maiden Water Bearer — Continental Gilt and Bisque Porcelain Figure with Amphorae, Late 19th / Early 20th Century

Description

Classical Maiden Water Bearer — Continental Gilt and Bisque Porcelain Figure with Amphorae, Late 19th / Early 20th Century

An elegant continental porcelain figure modelled as a classical Greco-Roman maiden carrying amphoriform water vessels, one balanced gracefully upon her head and the other held at her side. The figure is finely executed in bisque and glazed porcelain, with a richly gilded draped garment contrasting against the pale unglazed flesh tones, typical of late 19th to early 20th century classical revival decorative art. The amphorae are ornamented with a Greek key (meander) pattern, reinforcing the neoclassical inspiration. Standing upon a circular base, the sculpture displays refined modelling of drapery, posture, and facial features. Likely produced in continental Europe, possibly Germany or Austria, during the Art Nouveau / Neoclassical revival period. Condition appears very good with light age-related wear consistent with careful display.

Size 10 inches, 25.4 cm
