Description
The Three Graces – After Antonio Canova
V&A Museum Edition, Marble Resin Sculpture, 43 cm High
This elegant sculpture represents The Three Graces, daughters of Zeus and companions to the Muses, revered in classical mythology for bestowing beauty, charm, and creativity upon humanity.
The world-renowned Neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova (1757–1822) immortalised them in his celebrated masterpiece, depicting the sisters from left to right:
• Euphrosyne – symbolising mirth
• Aglaia – embodying elegance
• Thalia – representing youth and beauty
In this finely crafted sculpture, the trio are shown in a graceful embrace, their figures exquisitely modelled with delicacy and poise. The sculpture faithfully captures Canova’s mastery of harmony and form.
This piece was produced for the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and Scotland (from their original, acquired in 1994), and is cast in marble resin, a blend of resin and powdered marble that replicates the smooth, cool finish of carved stone while ensuring durability. Measuring 43 cm in height, it makes a striking display piece for any interior, bringing classical refinement into the modern home.
