Original WWII British Zuckerman Civil Defence Steel Helmet, BMB 1941

An original Second World War British Zuckerman Civil Defence helmet, dated 1941 and manufactured by Briggs Motor Bodies (BMB). This pattern, officially designated the Civilian Protective Helmet, was introduced in 1940 and widely issued to civil defence personnel, including rescue services, fire watchers, and air raid wardens during the Blitz.

The helmet is of pressed steel construction with its characteristic deep bowl shape and short flared brim, designed to offer enhanced protection against falling debris rather than ballistic impact. The interior retains its original liner, stamped to match the shell with BMB 634 and dated 1941, confirming wartime production consistency.

The exterior shows honest age-related wear, surface corrosion, and patina consistent with service use, adding to its authenticity and historical character. The presence of matching stamps on both shell and liner is a desirable feature for collectors.

A genuine and increasingly collectable example of British home front equipment, representing the vital role of civilian defence services during World War II.
