Description

WWII British Zuckerman Civil Defence Helmet (BMB, 1941)

Briggs Motor Bodies – Size 634
This authentic WWII-era Zuckerman helmet was issued to British civilian defence forces during the Blitz, most notably air raid wardens and fire watchers. Stamped “BMB 634 – 1941” on both the shell and its original liner, this helmet was manufactured by Briggs Motor Bodies, one of the leading suppliers of protective gear to the British government during the Second World War.
Crafted from pressed steel with a wide brim and ventilation holes, the Zuckerman helmet was designed to protect against falling debris during air raids. Unlike military helmets, its deeper bowl and civilian-focused design reflect the urgent need to safeguard non-combatants on the home front.
With its original pale green finish and natural aged patina, this helmet is a poignant relic of wartime Britain—symbolizing the resilience of everyday citizens under siege.
Dimensions: Approx. 29 cm diameter
Condition: Original paint with period wear and surface oxidation consistent with age
Provenance: Private collection, UK
