A Pair of Antique Royal Worcester Porcelain Figures – James Hadley Design, Kate Greenaway Style (c.1880–1900)

This delightful matched pair of fine porcelain figures is attributed to the celebrated modeller James Hadley for Royal Worcester, capturing the charm and innocence of childhood in the Kate Greenaway style—a beloved aesthetic of late Victorian and Edwardian decorative arts.
The boy figure is shown seated on a rustic tree stump, dressed in period attire including a wide-brimmed hat, buttoned jacket, and breeches. He is depicted in a naturalistic pose, playing a flute, with a serene and expressive face. The modelling is detailed and fluid, with careful rendering of the folds in his garments and the bark texture of the stump beneath him.
The girl figure stands in a graceful dancing pose, mid-step, gently lifting her skirt in a moment of play-ful motion. She wears a flowing, high-waisted dress with puffed sleeves and a matching bonnet. Her posture and expression convey a youthful liveliness, enhanced by the delicate movement captured in the porcelain.
Both figures are finished in a warm beige glaze with subtle hand-applied gilded accents, standing ap-proximately 9 inches tall and mounted on naturalistic bases. These pieces reflect the refined craftsman-ship, romanticism, and attention to detail that are the hallmarks of Royal Worcester’s golden period.

Size 25 x 12 cm – 9.7 x 4.8 inches (Boy) – 24 x 4.7 inches (Girl)
