Swiss 24th Infantry Battalion Rifleman’s Shako (1898 Version)
This cap belonged to a soldier of the Swiss 78th Rifle Battalion from WWI. The cap is made of black felt with a leather peak, with visible vents on the sides. On the forehead of the cap at the peak one can see a red pompon resting on a red and grey bow.
This early 20th-century Swiss 24th Infantry Battalion rifleman’s shako is a striking example of military headgear from the 1898 version. Featuring a sturdy felt body with leather accents, it is adorned with brass insignia, including crossed rifles, stars, and the number “24,” symbolizing its battalion. A vi-brant red pom-pom and rosette add a touch of colour and authenticity, making this piece highly desira-ble for collectors of militaria or historical artifacts.
Some age-related wear is visible, as illustrated, which adds character and reflects its historical signifi-cance.
This shako is not only a fine decorative item but also a tangible piece of Swiss military heritage, ideal for display in collections or as a conversation-starting centrepiece.
